Sharing about kids online: Do you have their consent?
with Stacie Lampkin and Shannon Collins
Monday, June 6, 2022
12:00pm - 1:00pm ET / 9:00am - 10:00am PT
Virtual Event (via Zoom)
Posting photos or stories about the kids in our lives has become habitual for many of us. We need to move away from making assumptions, and instead, toward a place of consent and autonomy. Stacie and Shannon encourage folks to join us in re-examining our approach in how we share about children in online spaces. We will challenge you to reconsider why you are posting and what the potential risks and rewards may be to the kids around us.
Modeling boundary-setting and asking for consent when sharing photos or stories about children has a life-long impact. After the workshop, attendees will be invited to continue the conversation, in hopes of influencing the narrative of others in our circles.
In this workshop, Stacie Lampkin and Shannon Collins will discuss:
Basics of consent, including the why, not just the what (autonomy over their bodies)
Reconsidering posting publicly about kids (via stories + photos) and offering alternatives of what to do instead
Boundary setting
Questions to ask yourself
Accountability (with yourself and others)
Tools and resources
FAQs
You’ll complete this workshop having a better idea of how to respect children’s boundaries and autonomy around consent, specifically in regard to creating safer online spaces.
Whether you have children in your life or not, this workshop will support you in reconsidering your why in how we interact with children from a place of respecting their full consent, especially around publicly posting private information.
